A good starting point is the square meter coverage listed on each product. For new sowing, you usually need a fuller application rate, while overseeding existing ground takes less. If you are between sizes, it is safer to round up so you get even coverage instead of thin patches.
Seed mixes are built for balanced performance, combining traits like fast germination, durability, and color consistency. Single-variety options are better when you want a very specific result, such as matching an existing area or testing one variety in a controlled section.
The best product depends on both the season and the site conditions. Cooler, stable periods are usually ideal for establishment, while hotter or drier conditions call for mixes selected for stress tolerance. Choosing the right product for the season improves germination speed and reduces wasted seed.
